Research Master in Oncology

Objectives

 This Master Program aims to offer the students a strong expertise in the field of cancer research if provides training and extensive research in Molecular Pharmacology applied to cancers which represent one of the most deadly human diseases. In particular, this master will:

  1. Inform students about cancer research by illustrating the various approaches mastered by the teams participating in the training and working on gene regulation during the pathology and treatment of cancers.
  2. Explain to students the essential elements needed for an understanding of the mechanisms regulating genes expression and signaling pathways involved in malignant transformation for basic and applied research.
  3. Give outlines of research directed towards the discovery and development of novel therapeutics.
  4. Prepare students for a University phD in the field of Oncology and pharmacological research.

Acquired Skills

This Master is based on areas of excellence in fundamental and molecular cancer research. The curriculum is based on: (1) the acquisition of an approach in basic research (2) to identify, characterize and validate new molecules and pharmacological targets as perspectives. (3)The latest acquisition for basic and methodological advances to study the molecular mechanisms of various bioactive molecules and their anti-cancer effects as possible therapeutic targets.

Admission Conditions

Recruitment: Applications are reviewed by an admission committee. The best candidates are selected after interview

Required Level: M1 biochemistry, M1 biology, degree in pharmacy, medical degree, diploma in medical laboratory and nurses

Pre-requisites: Cell molecular biology, basic in pharmacology, basic in oncology, cell signaling

Capacity: maximum number of students admitted: 10-12 students per year

Further Studies / Career Opportunities

Graduates of this program will be able to move towards a PhD program (Preparation of a PhD in Lebanon or abroad), or to integrate into the work market (ex. the pharmaceutical and hospital sectors), teaching and research (research assistant). Our Master in 'cancer' is indeed characterized to involve quality research and vocational sight targets.

General Infos

  • Diploma Level: BAC+5
  • Studies Duration: The first semester lasts for 14 weeks. Teaching for each unit is 4 hours per week. Semester 2: internship in a research lab, the training must be conducted in a research laboratory. The duration of this internship is 20 weeks. The student must discuss his experimental work with his supervisor. At the end of each month, the student should submit a written report showing the progress of his research topic. The research work carried out during the internship period must be reported in a dissertation. The defense of the master, authorized on the advice of the Faculty of science, is held before a jury designated by the Faculty of science from the Lebanese University at the end of the year
