Objective

Content

Aseptic manipulations. General directions and organization. Bacterial Morphology and Staining. Basic procedures for visualization and differentiation of microorganisms based on cell form and various structures. The GRAM stain. Basic laboratory, culture and isolating techniques. Acquaints students with proper laboratory procedures in preparing microbiological media and in culture techniques that are used in isolating microorganisms. Biochemical Activities of Bacteria. Energetic metabolism. Carbohydrate metabolism. Protein metabolism. Lipid metabolism. Introduces some of the biochemical activities that may be used in characterizing and identifying Enterobacteriaceae. Study of antibiotic susceptibility. Food microbiology, concern the water. Research of the coliform and the Streptococcus faecalis (method MPN).
